Match Report v HMH 13/12

Today we played HMH at melton mowbery. When we arrived we found that they only had 9 players so we played 9 a side.Soon this was down to 8 a side after they had an injury. HMH never troubled the worcester girls and worcester won the game 50-0 after 19 minutes. League rules state the match must stop at 50 points. Scorers were Hettie x3, Liv x2,tash,laura and jade. Jess 3 conversions and 2 by tash.

This now means we have won the south league and we will now play paviors in march for the league title.

Thanks to all the parents who drove today as you are an important part of the team as these away matches can not take place without you.

Matches 06/12

Today we played a tringular with hampshire and gloucestershire.Lost both games to 2 very good teams but as we said before the matches the result did not matter it was the performance that we were looking at.Alot of the girls playing for those teams will be playing regional this season so those of you trialling for regional now know the standard of opposition that you will face if you are successful.

Sunday, 15 November 2009

Burfield Match 15/11

Today we played burfield at home. Due to numbers this was played 10 a side. This was going to be a close game and it turned out that way. Liv sored in the first half but burfiled scored 2 with 1 converted to lead 12-5 at half time. Worcester came out in the second half and took the game to burfield scoring 3 tries by jess/jade and hettie . Burfield came back again and scored a try which was converted but worcester held out to make the final score 20-19 to worcester.

The second half was a lot better but there is still a long way to go for you to reach the potential that we know you are capable off.

NLD MATCH 08/11

Today we played an excellent NLD team.We lost the game 30-7. Try by liv converted by tash.NLD are a county team with the best girls from about 5 different clubs.Dont want to talk about the game to much as we will cover this on wednesday. The only thing i will mention is that we are reling on a few girls to do all the work ie tackling/rucking.This has to stop and we have to play as a team with everyone tackling etc.

Just to let you know that tash has been released from hospital suffering from whiplash and delayed concussion. Thanks to everyone who helped out with this injury and the nld medical staff who helped as well.

The following week we are playing burfield at home in a league match. Please confirm your availability for this match this week if possible.

Cardiff Game 01/11

Today we played cardiff away at cardiff. Quite an interesting and exciting game especially if you were a spectator. Cardiff started off very well and soon were 17-0 up. This seemed to wake up the worcester girls who scored a try by liv converted by jess. Cardiff scored again before half time to make it 24-7 at half time. Worcester came out strong in the second half and scored 3 quick trys jade x2 and liv 2 converted by jess to take the lead. Cardiff then came back with 2 trys of there own to take the lead again. Worcester then scored again by ashley converted by jess. There was then time for one more attack by worcester but this came to nothing. Full Time cardiff 38 worcester 33.
On the day both teams had chances to win the game but cardiff took theres. There were some positives from the game and some negatives as well.We will learn from this game and move on as a team. One loss does not take away all the good work we have done so far this season as sometimes you can still loose even if you play well.Welcome to katie and kelly who made there debuts today for worcester.
Thanks to all the parents who drove today and supported the team as without you these matches can not take place.

CIRENCESTER GAME 25/10

Today we played cirencester at worcester. We played on the westons pitch 3, which was the first time a game has been played on this pitch.Played some good rugby at times but not so good at other times. On the day we won 37-15. Trys from Jade x4 ,jess, hettie and lark, with 1 conversion from tash.In the end it was a comfortable win.
What you must do as a team is not rely on a few girls to do all the work and make all the tackles. What we have said before is it is the performance we are looking at and not just the result, and we would like to see some inprovement each week if possible.
Over the next 3 weeks we have some challenging fixtures coming up which will push us a lot, so the performance needs to improve over these fixtures. We want you to do well but ultimately it is down to you as we can not play the game for you.

In the second half worcester applied pressure and scored 5 more tries liv x2,tash,jade and lark and 2 conversions from tash.FT 46-0. PAVIORS MATCH 04/10

Today we played paviors at worcester. We knew today would be a good test and it proved so. Paviors started strongly but the worcester defence did not falter. Struggled to get out of our own half but did get a few brakes but these were stopped by strong tackling by paviors. Eventually paviors pressure created them a try.Worcester then put on pressure of there own and scored a try by Jade. HT 5-5.

The worcester team started the second half well and applied pressure on paviors. This carried on for a while but eventually paviors cleared and got a scrum on the worcester 5 metre which they scored from.Worcester then put pressure on paviors and eventually scored a try by liv.Worcester had a chance to snatch victory but it was not to be.FT 10-10

On reflection 10-10 was a fair result. There were some good things today and not so good. We will learn a lot from today and move forward as a team.

League/fixtures Explained

This season we are competing on the NLD League. The league has been divided in to a south and a north division to help with travelling times. We are in the south division. The winner of the south league will play the winner of the north league in march to decide the overall NLD league champions.

As well as the league there are also friendly, cup and 7s/10s tournament fixtures. These happen through out the season but most tournaments take place towards the end of the season.

County training/ fixtures happen before christmas but really these are just club sessions as the county team is made up of the worcester and greyhounds girls.

After christmas regional takes place, For this season it is from january to april. Over this period regional take up 8 sundays. 1 trials day ,4 training days and 2 match days and 1 tournament. Players will be nominated and invited to trial ,this is not an open trial. If you are not involved in the regional programme there will also be training sessions taking place and fixtures with other clubs players who are not involved in regional

We will also be having a tour. This will be from saturday 1st may to monday 3rd may. This tour is not just for the girls. We would like as many parents to come as well. Last season there was over 50 of us on tour.

Sunday, 20 September 2009

Sunday 27/09

On sunday the 27/09 it is county training at worcester. This will be 12.30 till 2.30 on the cummins farm pitches over the canal. We would like everyone to be there who is available as the county team is really just the worcester and greyhounds players.

OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS MATCH

We had our first league match today againast old northamptonians. Started off fairly well but were not playing to our usual standard. We scored 2 trys hettie and jade and were 12-0 after 15 minutes. There was a very long delay when an injury to an opposition player resulted in her being taken to hospital. There was then 1 more score by liv before half time to make it 19-0 at the break. In the second half there was 5 more trys liv X2 ,hettie, jazz and jade with 2 more conversion from tash. Old northamptonians scored 1 try as well to make the final score 48-5 to worcester/greyhounds. Trys liv x3 hettie x2 jade x2 jazz and tash 4 conversions.
There was a long of knockons, forward passes today which is not to the usual high standard that you normally set.On a good note there was always good support for anyone breaking through. There are a lot of hard games to come but we know you are capable of competing with any team out there if you play as well as we know you can.
Thanks to all the parents who drove and supported the team today.

On sunday we played a training game at drybrook. Due to low numbers at drybrook we played the game in quarters and lent them 3 players for each quarter to give everyone some good game time. As we said the score did not matter it was the performance we were interested in.There were a lot of good things that came out of the match and some areas to work on which we will talk about on wednesday. Especially good to see so many of you tackling as this has been an area we have been working on. NATIONAL 7S

NATIONAL 7S

On saturday we competed in the national 7s at harpenden. This turned out to be a very emotional day as this was the last games at u/15s for 6 of the players. We had 2 teams in on the day. Worcester 11 with 3 letchworth girls in the squad competed in pool3 .This was a really hard pool but they competed really well against strong opposition. The girls never let there heads down, were really competitive and scored some good trys but still lost all there 3 pool games. In the plate quarter final against H3 they conceeded an early try and then had at least 4 chances to score which were only stopped by last ditch tackles. The second half was more of the same but the opposition scored a breakaway try and worcester lost 10-0.

Worcester 1 competed in pool 1. They won all there pool games .In the cup quarter final they met burfield but were playing some great 7s rugby and won convincingly 27-10. In the semi final they met Ellingham and conceeded an early try but stuck to the game plan and ran out winners 28-5. Now in the final they met Welwyn. The girls new this would not be easy as welwyn are a very good team. The final turned out to be very tense affair with chances for both teams to score. Liv scored a try in the first half for a half time lead of 5-0. The second half welwyn put a lot of pressure on the worcester line but the girls held out and won 5-0.This sparked jubilant celebrations at the final whistle not only from the worcester girls and supporters but from the paviors girls who supported us in the final.

The 7s was a very long and hot day. Some of the girls suffered with the heat and injurys. Hopefully you are all right and feeling better soon. The day seemed to get hotter and hotter especially in the late afternoon. A big thankyou to adie who was kept busy for most of the day looking after these girls and all the parents who helped on the day as well.

This was the first time that the u/15s have won a national trophy but i am sure it will not be the last.

This was a great way to end a very successful season. This win was for all the worcester u/15s and not just those who played in the final. With what we viewed from both teams on the day we will have a strong squad for next season. Thanks to the 3 letchworth girls who helped us out on the day. As previously mentioned this was the last games at u/15s for LIBBY / ZETA / ZOE / IZZY M / MONKEY / JAZZ and KATE who could not take part today through injury. We wish them well in the future .This was also the last day for TRICIA as manager for the u/15s who has been brilliant all season.

HERTS 7S

Today we played in the herts. We were in a pool of 5 teams with only the top team going through to the cup. After a slow start in the first game we still came out winners. As the pool games went on the team started to get used to 7s and gained in confidence. In the end we won all our pool games scoring 118 points and conceding only 12 points in the 4 games. We then met london irish in the semi final and after a tense game we won 7-5.In the final we met paviors but in another tense game lost 10-0.

I know some of you were disapointed to loose in the final but these things happen. Please think about where we are as a team now and what you have achieved this season to where you were when the season started. With out any doubt you have all improved as players and are still improving.Take todays tournament you played as a team and there were 10 different try scorers on the day which only happens when you play as a team.Remember we win as a team and we loose as a team.

Next saturday is our last tournament of the season .For some of you this is also your last games at u/15s before moving to u/18s.Lets finish the season playing as a team and playing good rugby and most important of all please enjoy yourselves.

DAY 1 THE ADVENTURE BEGINS !!!!!!

Hello, me heartis

Captain Pete here. This is the log of the good ship Greyhound!!!
We started our voyage in the year of our lord 2nd May 2009. After filling with supplies, the skurvey crew boarded the Greyhound, with helmsman John steering the way. We made our way down the M40 gulf current, only stopping at Oxford Park Island to replenish our supplies. There were several ships in dock, and one of the crew, shipmate Harriet tried to board and capture one of the other ships (coach) single handed. She was quickly repelled, and returned to the ship aiding our quick escape.

We continued our journey under the sweltering heat crossing into the dangerous waters of the M25. After acquiring some damage we pulled into port at the Island of Mitcham after navigating the narrow rocks (cars) of the Mitcham channel. After landing, we came across a stranded crew from Beckenham and Mitcham whose ship had sunk due to do hitting the rocks earlier that week.

We had parlay and the games began, with an old pirate game called rugby:
Due to the heat, it was agreed that the game would be played in quarters. (For the pirates amongst you that means 15 minutes) The Worcester Greyhound girls started strongly and soon scored. This carried on for the rest of the quarter with a further three tries. The second quarter brought with it 11 fresh sets of legs (none of which were wooden), which did not affect the game play.

More changes were made as the battle continued. First mate Keith then had further parlay and both crews intermixed for the final quarter, which made the game a lot more even and enjoyable for the girls.

As the crew was all women, the ref was a young male slave who had been captured by the Beckenham Mitcham crew.

Navigator Nic took a fancy to the slave (ref) and was quickly rescued by the rest of the crew, with Nic protesting "it’s all right, I don’t need saving."

We all went back to their camp and the festivities began. While the Beckenham and Mitcham crews were not looking Commander Kim rounded up the shipmates, re-boarded the Greyhound and continued on to the Island of Tourtuga (Truleigh hill). We navigated the narrow straits that protect the Island of Tourtuga. Second mate Trich rowed ahead with haste to Tourtuga to prepare for our arrival. We eventually arrived at Tourtuga, and the crew seem to be tired after their hard battle.

Captain Pete’s harem (mummies) then prepared the food and the crew feasted, and the party began.

The Captains table was called and present was, Capt Pete, Boson Bruce, Asbo Aide (first aid), Seaman Simon, Capt Pugwash (Matt), Navigator Nic, and First Mate Keith, with Commander Kim keeping a close eye on the crew with a hand from Second Mate Trich. After a long night of merriment, the Captains table retired to their quarters, with the crew still running riot. In the middle of the night brought an attempted mutiny from Asbo Aide but it was quickly crushed, and order was restored by the morning.

DAY 2 THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES !!!!!!

Captain Pete’s log, in the year of our lord 3rd May 2009.

After a hearty breakfast, the crew boarded the Greyhound once more and continued their journey to the Island of Worthing. On arrival they joined the mass gathering of Pirate crews from around the country. We secured the vessel and set up camp under the palm trees where the battle lines were drawn. First mate Keith and Commander Kim then went to parlay to find our first challengers. The crew was split into two raiding parties, with First mate Keith leading the one and Commander Kim the other. Two of our crew jumped ship and joined the good ship Wimbourne to commence battle with the older age bracket. They being Pirate Peaches and Pirate Zoe.

The order of battle was set and the order was given….. "Let the Battle Commence"

Commander Kim’s crew was soon called into battle against Folkestone. The crew soon emerged victorious without sustaining any injuries. Having broken free, Pirate Dude could not make the try line, falling just short due to a navigation error.
First mate Keith’s crew followed into battle shortly after, and were repelled by Paviours sustaining casualties who were treated by Asbo Aide’s miracle cure.
Commander Kim’s crew headed back in to battle against Wimborne and Elingham, and after a hard battle emerged victorious but with casualties, again with Asbo Aide coming to the rescue with his moto "we can rebuild them".
First mate Keith’s crew were quickly back into battle against the Welsh Pirates of Cardiff sadly being repelled once again, but without any injuries.
Commander Kim’s crew, now facing an unknown enemy, were defeated and acquired a few injuries and found themselves relying again on Asbo Aide
First mate Keiths crew were into battle again against South Sussex Pirates and after a long hard battle emerged victorious, coming away with the booty.
Pirates Peaches and Zoe having had a successful day, repelling all boarders returned to the Greyhound, as undefeated Champions of Island Worthing.

The crew now weary and tired from battle, returned to the Greyhound with their booty, and returned to the Island of Tourtuga. On returning, Navigator Nic and Second mate Trish (having returned early) had food ready for the incoming crews.
Asbo Aide then continued to administer his lotions and potions to the still injured crewmates who soon recovered.

After feasting the crews planned for a wedding. Vicar Monkey called everyone to their seats as the brides approached. Seaman Simon and Seaman Ian walked the Pirate brides, Zoey and Zeta, down the isle. After a bootiful fireside service the couple walked back down the isle and the party commenced.

Later that evening First mate Keith gathered some of the crew for a quiz. With the rivalry between the young and old pirates increasing as quiz developed. The young pirates emerged victorious with a few youngsters showing the oldies up. Shortly after everyone returned to their quarters with some partying throughout the night.

DAY 3 THE ADVENTURE ENDS !!!!!!

Captain Pete’s Log day 3, the year of our lord 4th May 2009

Commander Kim woke the crew up early ready for the long journey home. We filled the ship with supplies and booty and made our merry way. Two bells into the journey we run aground on Worthing beach. The crew disembarked and scoured the area for more hidden treasure. Some of the crew entered the water to refloat the greyhound, failing to do so we waited for high tide. Some of the crew still tired from the night before could not keep their sea legs, with Mojo falling over the stationary deck chairs. After four bells it was high tide and the crew re-boarded and continued their journey.

On the way back we stopped off at the island of Newberry, where we stocked up with new supplies for the final leg of the journey. On returning to the greyhound pirate Noddy spotted a boat full of boys and tried to board their ship but was repelled and saved by her crew. The good ship greyhound then continued its journey home. Arriving at the port of Worcester by six bells. All crewmembers were safely picked up and returned home.

This is the end of Captain Pete’s log
UNTIL THE NEXT TIME
THAT IS….

NATIONAL CUP 26/04

Today was the next round of the national cup.We were up againast 3 other teams. First up was a match against paviors. We had lost to them a few weeks ago 34-0.But todays game was going to be a bit tighter.Started the game slowly and conceeded a try in the first few minutes. Hit back within a few minutes with a try from liv. The rest of the half was a tight affair and half time it was 5-5.Paviors started the second half strongly and were stopped with a try saving tackle from libby. The match was end to end with both teams having chances to score.Eventually worcester had a penalty which was missed. The game looked like it was going to end level when paviors scored with a minute to go and went on to win the game 12-5.

Next up was morpeth. Morpeth scored first but worcester hit back with a converted try to make the game 7-5 to worcester at half time.In the second half we had to shuffle a few things around due to several injuries. Morpeth stepped up a gear and scored 3 more trys. Final score morpeth 20 worcester 7.

The last game of the day was played 10 a side due to tydlesley have only 10 players available and it was decided to play this game as a friendly as both teams could not progress to the next round.Good competitive first half of rugby. Worcester scored first to lead 7-0 but tydlesley then hit back to go 15-7 ahead. A good move just before half time led to lark breaking through the defence who passed to liv to score which was converted by tash. Half time 15-14 to tydlesley. Just after lark had passed to liv she was controversly tackled by a tydlesley player and the worcester coaches decided this was not the spirit in which the game should be played and withdrew the team for the second half as this game was supposed to have been a friendly.

Paviors won the last game against morpeth and will now play welwyn in the national u/15s cup final. Some of your rugby today was really good and remember in the last 2 weeks you have played both the teams competing in the national cup final and have lost by only a single try in both games.

GLOUCESTER 10S

A great day of rugby and weather meant the first gloucester 10s was a great success for the organisers. All the girls played some really good rugby .I know you were disapointed to loose the final but you gave 100 % and only lost 5-0 to a very good welwyn team. Please be proud of what you have achieved today wheather you were playing for worcester or the greyhounds team.Your play today was very good and you are all turning into very good rugby players and a very hard team to beat.

We are also one shirt missing from yesterday and we believe it is the worcester number 14 shirt and needs to be returned at training on wednesday.

CUP 05/04

Today played 3 games in the national cupThis was a round robin format with matches 15 minutes each way.First game was against burfield which was won 24-10 with tries from katie, zoe and charlotte x 2 with conversions from katie and zoe.Next game was against a very good and strong paviors which was lost 34-0. The last game of a long afternoon was against old northamptonians which was won 52-0 with tries from zoe, lark, jenna x 2 and katie x4 with conversions from zoex3 and katie x3.There was some very good play today and you showed some of what we know you are capable of.When you play well and as a team you are a very hard team to play against but it needs to be for the whole of the game.In the paviors game you were only 7-0 down with a minute to half time so you were not that far out of the game. With 2 going through we are now in the next round with paviors which will be played on the 26/04.Had a lot of injuries today so if you are not at training this week please let tricia or me know how you are.A long drive today so thanks to all the parents who drove today and supported the team.

MATCH 22/03

Today we played burfield at chaddesley corbett rfc.Match played in quarters to give us a chance to change players and make it cup related. To say we have had better days would be a good way of suming up the match. Did not start very well and had a lot of handling errors which carried on through the whole match and this effected the overall performance.Lost the game 19-12 and our 2 trys were scored by liv and kate and one converted by kate.Have a lot of things to work on in our next 3 training sessions before the first round of the cup.Would like to welcome ERIN who played her first game today for worcester. CARDIFF MATCH

Due to low numbers with both worcester due to regional matches and berryhill we combined to form 1 team against cardiff quins.Cardiff were very well organised and played a good quick fast game which we struggled to contend with.Cardiff eventually ran out worthy winners. As we have said all season we are looking at the performance more than the result . It is very difficult to play when you have players conbining to make up a team. The important thing is you did not let your heads down and kept trying right to the final whistle and you have learnt a few things from the game. Thanks to all the parents who drove today .A big thank you to tracy and nic who cooked the food today and for greyhounds for hosting this fixture.
